MAYNARD — Police Chief Michael Noble and Fire Chief Angela Lawless announce that the Maynard Police and Fire Departments, along with Maynard Dispatch, will be conducting Active Shooter Hostile Event Response (ASHER) training tomorrow.
WHEN:
Tuesday, Aug. 8, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
WHERE:
Maynard High School, 1 Tiger Drive
WHO:
- Maynard Police
- Maynard Fire
- Maynard Dispatch
WHAT:
Maynard Police and Fire, in collaboration with Maynard Dispatch will be participating in a joint ASHER training tomorrow as part of routine professional development.
Residents should be aware that there will be a large public safety and law enforcement presence near the high school while training is being conducted.
This drill is part of routine training for Maynard Police, Fire and Dispatch. Training allows the departments to collaborate together to ensure that they are setting a high quality public safety model for the Town of Maynard.
ASHER Training is comprised of drills and scenarios centered around active shooter or hostile situations. This training will allow departments to collaborate and strengthen their skills in their specific roles while working to manage high-level tasks at hand.
“Police, Fire and Dispatch work closely every day to assist our residents in times of emergency, and this drill will help us strengthen our relationship with our counterparts,” said Chief Lawless. “This drill will allow us to test our preparedness plan, implement guidelines we have developed and identify the need for adjustments.”
Maynard Police and Fire plan several more training sessions this year. Training may be held in other locations, at other times, and may include outside agencies. The public will be notified of each training session in advance.
“I remind residents and those who may follow scanners that we will be using our radios to communicate to simulate what could be a real-life scenario,” said Police Chief Noble. “We ask residents and community members to remain calm, as this is a part of our training.”
