MAYNARD — Chief Angela Lawless and the Maynard Fire Department are pleased to share this week’s station feature: kitchen table.
The Maynard Fire Department received a new and improved kitchen table for their new station, complete with the Maynard Fire logo and the Professional Firefighters of Massachusetts (PFFM) logo.
The table is located on the second floor of the station in the kitchen area, where members can eat and catch up with one another.
This table symbolizes a place where department members can go to socialize, build comradery, solve problems, and talk about things outside of service calls.
Firefighters respond to intense situations and calls that requires maximum composure, making mental health important to everyone in the fire service. Maynard’s kitchen table has more chairs than department members as there will always be a seat at the table, an open door and a pot of coffee for first responders who need to talk.
“This wonderful table allows our members to connect with one another, either through a meal or a cup of coffee,” said Chief Lawless. “Firefighters often do 24-hour shifts, so they spend breakfast, lunch, and dinner with their fire family. This table allows us to create new memories, share stories and converse with one another between calls. It really creates a safe space for members to decompress.”
The table was built by inmates at a local prison and the logos were made by TSS Graphics in Stow.
