MAYNARD — Chief Angela Lawless and the Maynard Fire Department are pleased to share this week’s station feature: the training room.
Maynard Fire is equipped with a training room that can seat up to 77 people.
The space is used by the Maynard Fire Department as the planned Emergency Operations Center (EOC), which will open during a large-scale emergency allowing many departments across a variety of jurisdictions. The Local Emergency Planning Committee will meet here to discuss and make decisions on how to mitigate and recover from large-scale events.
The training room can be split into two rooms depending on the need for space and has an area for Maynard Fire to review building plans for fire prevention. The space also has multiple digital screens, some of which can display dispatch calls, a microphone system, and a projector.
Maynard Fire also allows community members to utilize the room for meetings, Scouting events, sports teams, and more. The department has also hosted professional development in collaboration with Massachusetts Emergency Management Association (MEMA) for both department members and the community.
This January, Maynard Fire will host the Massachusetts Fire Academy (MFA), which is offering two courses to firefighters across the state, including Fire Prevention Officer and Fire Officer courses.
Additionally, Maynard Fire used the wall space within the room to display items related to the deep history of the Maynard Fire Department.
“Our training room acts as a versatile space for not only our members but the public as well,” said Chief Lawless. “This space is meant to collaborate, share ideas and train with others. The department also has the means to establish an Emergency Operations Center right in the station, which will provide a space for first responders to evaluate and mitigate incidents during large-scale emergencies.”
