Maynard Firefighters Battle Garage Fire

MAYNARD – Chief Anthony Stowers reports that the Maynard Fire Department battled a residential garage fire early Monday morning.

Firefighters responded to 89 Summer St. at 6:39 a.m. for a report of a building fire. The first arriving fire companies, Engine 2 and Ladder 1, found heavy smoke showing from the detached garage upon arrival, and a working fire response was requested. This sent additional firefighters, including crews from Stow, Concord, Sudbury, Acton and Boxborough to the scene.

Firefighters pulled two hose lines and were able to quickly knock down the bulk of the fire and prevent it from spreading beyond the garage area. No one was injured.

Chief Stowers praised the firefighters, led by Capt. Angela Lawless, for working quickly to prevent damage to the home. The garage, located just to the left and rear of the main home, was also saved but sustained fire and smoke damage.

“Captain Lawless and her crew did a fantastic job of quickly knocking down the fire and performing overhaul to keep it from totally destroying the structure,” Chief Anthony Stowers said. “And as usual our mutual companies proved invaluable in helping to keep the fire contained, and to assist with two other emergencies at the same time in Maynard.”

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
