MAYNARD — Chief Angela Lawless and the Maynard Fire Department are pleased to share this week’s station feature: safe haven rooms.
The Maynard Fire Station has two safe haven rooms that are open 24/7 to those in need of assistance.
Residents and community members who are danger or are in fear of their safety can come to the Maynard Fire station, 30 Sudbury St., and walk into either of the safe haven rooms.
The front door of the station is the first safe room, and the second is located near the apparatus entrance of the building. Both rooms are equipped with a lockdown button which, when pressed, will secure the room, and lock the doors from the inside.
Once locked inside the room, residents will be able to speak with the Maynard Communications Department via intercom. Dispatchers can then send a Maynard Fire member or Maynard Police Officer to come and unlock the door and provide assistance and resources to individuals in the room.
Safe Haven rooms are made for the protection of those who may be being followed, those who may be in a domestic abuse situation, or others who may be in need of assistance.
“The safety of our residents is of utmost importance and having these safe rooms is a great way to assist our community even further,” said Chief Lawless. “This is a very unique feature of our station that we offer to our community members who may be in need of immediate assistance or who are in danger.”
To schedule a tour of the station, please contact the Maynard Fire Department at 978-897-1014.
Those who are in need of immediate assistance are encouraged to call 911. To view additional domestic violence resources about getting help click here.
