MAYNARD — Chief Angela Lawless reports that the Maynard Fire Department responded to and extinguished a three-alarm fire early this morning.
On Wednesday, March 22, at approximately 6:30 a.m., the Maynard Fire Department received multiple calls about a fire at a senior public housing complex on Powder Mill Road.
Upon arrival crews observed heavy smoke and fire coming from the second floor of the complex.
Crews immediately struck a second alarm for assistance due to the heavy fire.
The fire was confined to one side of the building and Maynard Fire subsequently struck a third alarm to request mutual aid support from the Concord and Acton Police and Fire Departments.
The fire was brought under control at approximately 7:40 a.m.
About eight residents are displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
One resident was transported to an area hospital for what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries. One Maynard firefighter also was transported due to injuries sustained during the fire suppression response, which appeared to be non-life-threatening.
Chief Lawless would like to thank mutual aid partners from Maynard Police, Concord Police and Fire, and Acton Police and Fire, Boxborough Fire, Marlborough Fire, Lincoln Fire, Sudbury Police and Fire, Stow Fire, Bolton Fire, and district area chiefs for their professionalism and swift response.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Maynard Fire, District 14 Fire Investigators, and the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
