MAYNARD — Chief Angela Lawless and the Maynard Fire Department are pleased to share this week’s station feature: time capsule.
The Maynard Fire Department has a time capsule that will be filled with department memorabilia from the past. This idea was to preserve the past and the future of the history of the department, while commemorating the completion of the new station.
Items in the time capsule include pictures from when the department first opened for service, different patches, and letters to future chiefs from Chief Lawless and Retired Maynard Fire Chief Anthony Stowers. There will also be a detailed list explaining the contents of the capsule, with pictures of the station being built.
The letters will include information about the department, advice, and insight into how operations were run during this time. Chief Lawless’ letter will also discuss being the first female fire chief for the department.
The time capsule is set to be opened in 2071, marking 200 years since the Town of Maynard was incorporated as an independent municipality.
“This feature of the station really brings together the history and our accomplishments from over 150 years and I am extremely grateful that we can leave our legacy and memories with generations of firefighters in the future,” said Chief Lawless. “Preserving where we came from is important for when we head in the future. The hard work and effort for those before paved the way for firefighting and for our town, and it is truly an honor to be able to gift this for the future firefighters of Maynard.”
